It appears that I have the dubious honour of having been blocked by a well-known far right Christian this week. I had very gently chided him on his Facebook page regarding one of his articles. He had used an AI image to conjure up left-leaning protesters shouting at a pastor. He had then gone on to criticize the made-up people he had created in his picture.
Needless to
say, this caricature of left-wing protesters was way off the mark. I challenged
him on this. I was really polite - honestly I was! But the result of my
challenge is that I have been blocked.
It appears
that far right Christians have a soft centre and are not able to cope with even
the mildest of criticism. It's a pity really, as some of the points he made
were genuine enough and it would have been good to continue to debate them.
I remain
concerned that a small number of Christians are following a strange mix of
Christianity and nationalism which results in the poor and marginalized being
blamed for the ills of this country. Such aggression towards those of another
religion and towards migrants seems pretty much the opposite of what the Bible
teaches. And by blocking debate, these individuals will reinforce their extreme
positions, ignoring even the most modest of challenges.
