Sir Stephen Timms MP is a friend of mine. He has a strong Christian faith and before the last election, wrote an article on the subject of assisted dying. In it, he explains to potential Labour MPs why it would be unwise to bow to the well-funded pressure groups and support assisted dying – otherwise known as assisted suicide.
With the current debate and proposed vote in the House of
Commons, the article is worth reading. The House of Commons sent a delegation
to Oregon, often considered the gold standard for assisted suicide by
campaigners. The delegation identified patients that had been permitted to die
from conditions including anorexia, arthritis, diabetes and hernias.
Are we foolish enough to think assisted suicide in the UK would have different results? Please encourage your local MP to vote against the assisted suicide bill being introduced to Parliament by Kim Leadbeater MP.
